What this site is

An independent publisher writing about pool covers, pool heating and the arithmetic behind both. Everything here is general information for a general audience.

It is not professional advice. We are not engineers, electricians, gas fitters, plumbers or pool professionals, and we do not claim to be — see the about page, which is unusually specific about what we are not. Nothing here is a substitute for a qualified person looking at your actual pool.

About the calculations

The calculators and worked examples here use published physics and published energy prices, and every formula and assumption is shown on the page so you can check it. We believe the arithmetic is right and we publish it precisely so that errors can be found.

But they are models, and models leave things out. Ours do not account for your weather, your humidity, your wind exposure, your equipment’s real condition, your local energy tariff structure, or a hundred other site-specific factors. Treat every output as an estimate for planning, not a prediction of your bill.

Where we could not derive a figure honestly, we say so rather than publishing a plausible-sounding range. The limits of each model are stated on the page that uses it and on the methodology page.

Product information

Specifications come from named sources and are labeled by where they came from. Manufacturers change products without notice, and in this category most of them publish very little in the first place — which we say on the pages where it applies.

Verify anything that matters before you buy, on the retailer’s current listing and in the manufacturer’s own documentation. Prices and availability are the retailer’s, change constantly, and where we cannot verify one we show no number at all.

We are not the seller. Orders, payment, delivery, returns and warranties are entirely between you and the retailer. We have no involvement in a transaction and cannot help with an order problem — the retailer can.

We link to sources so you can check our work. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability. Sources move and die; when we find out, we re-source or remove the claim.

Intellectual property

The written content, calculations, tables and design of this site are ours and are protected by copyright. Quote us with attribution and a link — genuinely, we would like that. Do not republish pages wholesale.

Product names and trademarks belong to their owners and appear here for identification. No endorsement by or affiliation with them is implied.

Liability

This site is provided as-is. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of it or reliance on it — including any purchase decision, any calculation result, or any work carried out on a pool.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

These terms may change, and the date at the top of the page changes with them. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
